Hi jonny, When you say you can't connect, I presume you mean your unable to connect to the WinMX Network. First off, when was you LAST able to connect? Second, have you installed anything just before this problem started? Also, please ensure you have the latest PIE patch installed, which can be found here. Take care Ninko

Hi jonny, Please check that you have the following files in your WinMX folder (normally C:\Program Files\WinMX): colors.dat contacts.dat errcatch.exe ignore.dat library.dat license.txt settings.dat uninstall.exe WinMX.exe wpnpchannelcmds.txt Please tell me if you are missing any of the above files and what other files you have that aint in that list. Have you installed the patch found at www.winmxworld.com/ ? If so, please uninstall it, this patch has known problems and I myself don't recommend it. Finally, does any error messages come up when you load or shut WinMX down? Take care Ninko

I read wot you said to Jonny in last post, and i checked my folder, and i only have the following files: colors.dat lib4.dat settings.dat uninstallmx.exe WinMX.exe ws2_32.dll Is it because i'm missing some files that winmx doesn't work normaly, and if it is please tell me how to get it. Hi nene, I noticed you have the ws2_32.dll file in your WinMX folder, this is KM's connection patch found from winmxworld.com, this patch has known problems, so I myself only use PIE Patch. Right to start, you will need to reinstall WinMX, to do so: 1. Go to: Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > then uninstall your WinMX from there. 2. Delete your WinMX folder completely (normally found in C:\Program Files\). 3. Empty your Recycle Bin. 4. Download PIE Patch 2.9 from >>> HERE <<< and follow the steps for whichever method you choose. 5. Download WinMX 3.53 from >>> HERE <<< and follow the instillation steps. With any luck this should get you sorted, but if not, please let me know and I will try to help you further . Take care Ninko

Thankx a lot Ninko , i did wot you said.i have now installed the patch and winmx 3.53. It's working, but the thing is i can only connect on secundary.Whe i was in the installing process,it said my pc was not able to get tcp connetions, but i know it can cause i could get primary connction before. It must be something related to some firewall i guess,or proxy issues which btw i don't know nothing about it lol. I was using winmx 5.54 before, don't know if the info will help. I wouldn't mind being able to connect only in sec,but that way i have lots of problem in several rooms,it makes almost impossible to keep a normal conversation because of the huge lags.(i use winmx mainly for chat) Sorry to bother you with this stuff Ninko,i'm thankfull for wot you did so far,and it would be fantastic if you could help me more.Thankx a lot

Oops forget the problem that i mentions on last post lol,i can now connect on primary,i did something manually on options. But theres still one problem,is the fact that i can only get a good primary connetion at late hours,it only happens with me,i don't undersatnd why . I'm not from the UK,i'm from Portugal,is it a geographical problem?Or maybe my winmx is somekind of vampire software,it only comes out at night pmsl ;D. Once again ty for everything.

Hi nene, Lol I'm glad we're making some progress with your WinMX!
What exactly do you mean by 'good primary connection'? Does it not connect as primary at all during early hours or does it keep dropping primary connections etc?
What connection type do you have (DSL, Cable, T1 etc)? What is your average P and S count (look in the title bar at the top of WinMX)?
Take care

I have Cable connetion. During the day theres some periods that connects but just for some min or sec, then drops again,it's never steady. At night when it connects the P is about (4) and after 4am it gets sometimes to (9) the S i never paid atenction but i believe its about (11). At this very moment the primary keeps droping, its very weak, though its late its not working.

Could this have something to do with what your Cable ISP is doing, for example, do they limit your download/upload during peak times, or do they just limit certain ports during peak time?
During peak times, have you noticed your connection just generally being slower when just surfing the net or downloading off a website etc?
A silly point to bring up but just to make sure, are you or others (if your on a network) using your connection to heavily during these hours that you say your WinMX connection is slow?
You could try changing the TCP/UDP ports your WinMX uses (if you would like to try that but don't know how, let me know).
Also, ensure you have set a incoming and outgoing limit on your WinMX's Settings > Bandwidth Throttle, this is a very important setting when connected as a primary, as without it WinMX is able to use your WHOLE connection and leave you with nothing to surf the net etc.
You mentioned earlier that you mainly only use WinMX for chat, going from experience there should be no need to be connected as a primary, I run a room and am not connected as primary. Do you keep getting cut off from a room when your connected as a secondary?
Take care

I don't know to answer you about the ports, but i guess they don't limit at all. I from Madeira island, and we have our own network(netmadeira),it's cable, there's not many users,so it's very fast, one of the best of all counrty. When i'm in winmx i don't use the network for anything else. I would like to try TCP/UDP ports, but as you figurered i don't know how lol. About the bandwith i put 150000 in both (out and incoming) don't know if its good or wrong. When i'm in secundary and in early hours i get cut off sometimes, but if its late it doesn't ,just a bit slower and with lags in rooms that uses fxs server. ty. Stay cool

nene, Ok, first off, ensure you have set your TCP/UDP ports up correctly, to do so: 1. In WinMX, go to Settings > Outgoing TCP Connections, select option, Don’t use a proxy server (connect directly). 2. Go to Settings > Incoming TCP Connections, select option, Listen on port [ ] for incoming TCP connections, and type in the TCP port number you wish to use (between 5001 - 65535). 3. Go to Settings > In/Out UDP Packets, select option, Send and receive UDP datagrams on port [ ], and type in the UDP port number you wish to use (again between 5001 - 65535). Also remember your TCP and UDP ports MUST be different. 4. Click Close and close your WinMX. 5. If you use a router you need to forward your chosen TCP/UDP ports, find your routers Make and Model at www.portforward.com and follow their instructions. 6. Disable the Windows XP Firewall (if your using Windows XP) as follows: Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall, select option, Off (not recommended). If you have your own firewall installed, ensure you have allowed WinMX full access to the Internet. This should now find you having your ports set up correctly! Now, regarding your bandwidth limits, 150000 for both seems abit high, unless of course your connection is very fast. The way to work out roughly what figure you should have in both is as follows: You need to know what speeds your internet connection supports for downstream and upstream (download/upload). Mine are 2272Kbps download and 288Kbps upload. Ok, some maths now I'm afriad lol, divide your download by 8 (2272 / 8 = 284), then divide the total by 100 (284 / 100 = 2.84), and finally times the total by the % of your bandwidth you wish to use for WinMX, at the moment I use 50% of my connection speed for WinMX (2.84 x 50 = 142). So in my case, I would enter 142000 for the incoming limit and 18000 for my outgoing limit (remember to add 3 0's after your answers and to always ensure you have actually ticked the limit incoming and outgoing options. I hope this helps, take it one step at a time, any problems let me know . Take care Ninko

Hi atticus, First, a few questions: Do you have PIE Patch 2.9 installed? What do you see to the LEFT of your Ignore button on WinMX? Do you have a file called, ws2_32.dll in your WinMX folder (normally C:\Program Files\WinMX)? Take care Ninko
